Two roommates walk through a supermarket deciding what to buy for the week and debating whether to spend more on an imported brand.

zán men zhè zhōu yào mǎi diǎn shén me? wǒ xiān kàn kàn gòu wù qīng dān.
What do we need to buy this week? Let me check the shopping list first.

wǒ men děi mǎi diǎn shū cài, jī dàn, niú nǎi, zài lái diǎn shuǐ guǒ.
We need to buy some vegetables, eggs, milk, and also get some fruit.

行。牛奶你想买哪种？这儿有进口的，也有国产的。
xíng. niú nǎi nǐ xiǎng mǎi nǎ zhǒng? zhèr yǒu jìn kǒu de, yě yǒu guó chǎn de.
Okay. Which kind of milk do you want to buy? There's imported and domestic here.

jìn kǒu de guì hěn duō ma? wǒ kàn kàn jià qián.
Is the imported one a lot more expensive? Let me check the price.

进口的一盒要二十八，国产的才十五块。
jìn kǒu de yì hé yào èr shí bā, guó chǎn de cái shí wǔ kuài.
The imported one is twenty-eight yuan a carton, while the domestic one is only fifteen.

差了快一倍呢！进口的真有那么好吗？
chà le kuài yí bèi ne! jìn kǒu de zhēn yǒu nà me hǎo ma?
That's almost double! Is the imported one really that much better?

我觉得味道差不多，没必要买那么贵的。
wǒ jué de wèi dào chà bu duō, méi bì yào mǎi nà me guì de.
I think they taste about the same, so there's no need to buy the expensive one.

可是听说进口的更新鲜，保质期也长一点。
kě shì tīng shuō jìn kǒu de gèng xīn xiān, bǎo zhì qī yě cháng yì diǎn.
But I heard the imported one is fresher, and the shelf life is a bit longer too.

咱们每天都喝，还是买国产的划算吧。
zán men měi tiān dōu hē, hái shi mǎi guó chǎn de huá suàn ba.
We drink it every day, so buying the domestic one is more worth it.

行吧，那牛奶就买国产的，多拿两盒。
xíng ba, nà niú nǎi jiù mǎi guó chǎn de, duō ná liǎng hé.
Fine, then let's get the domestic milk, and grab two extra cartons.

没问题。那边有草莓和苹果，你想吃哪个？
méi wèn tí. nà biān yǒu cǎo méi hé píng guǒ, nǐ xiǎng chī nǎ ge?
No problem. There are strawberries and apples over there—which do you feel like eating?
