From the Library to the Cafeteria

A university freshman asks an upperclassman near the library how to walk to the cafeteria and how long the walk takes.

Senior, sorry to bother you — may I ask how to get to the cafeteria from the library?

没事儿，你是新生吧？食堂离这儿不远。
méishìr, nǐ shì xīnshēng ba? shítáng lí zhèr bù yuǎn.
No problem — you're a freshman, right? The cafeteria isn't far from here.

Yes, I just arrived, so I'm not very familiar with the campus yet.

没关系，我给你指个路。你从图书馆大门出来，先往右走。
méi guānxi, wǒ gěi nǐ zhǐ ge lù. nǐ cóng túshūguǎn dàmén chūlái, xiān wǎng yòu zǒu.
No worries, let me point you the way. Come out the library's main gate and first walk to the right.

Walk to the right, and then?

然后一直往前走，看到一个大喷泉，就到十字路口了。
ránhòu yìzhí wǎng qián zǒu, kàndào yí ge dà pēnquán, jiù dào shízì lùkǒu le.
Then keep walking straight ahead, and when you see a big fountain, you'll have reached the intersection.

到了十字路口，是要过马路吗？
dào le shízì lùkǒu, shì yào guò mǎlù ma?
Once I reach the intersection, do I need to cross the street?

不用过马路，你在路口左转，食堂就在那栋红色的楼里。
búyòng guò mǎlù, nǐ zài lùkǒu zuǒ zhuǎn, shítáng jiù zài nà dòng hóngsè de lóu lǐ.
No need to cross the street. Turn left at the intersection, and the cafeteria is right inside that red building.

明白了。那走过去大概要多长时间啊？
míngbái le. nà zǒu guòqù dàgài yào duō cháng shíjiān a?
Got it. So about how long does it take to walk there?

走路的话，大概五到十分钟，很快就到了。
zǒulù dehuà, dàgài wǔ dào shí fēnzhōng, hěn kuài jiù dào le.
If you walk, it's about five to ten minutes — you'll get there quickly.
