yéye, zhè zhāng zhàopiàn shàng de niánqīng rén shì nǐ ma? kàn qǐlái hǎo shuài a!
Grandpa, is the young man in this photo you? He looks so handsome!
W
hāhā, shì wǒ, nà nián wǒ cái èrshí suì, gāng dàxué bìyè.
Haha, that's me. That year I was only twenty, and had just graduated from college.
L
So where did you meet Grandma? Come on, tell me!
W
wǒmen shì zài yì jiā shūdiàn rènshi de. dāngshí tā zhèngzài zhǎo yì běn shū, zěnme zhǎo dōu zhǎo bú dào.
We met in a bookstore. At the time she was looking for a book but couldn't find it no matter how hard she tried.
L
And then? Did you help her find that book?
W
duì, wǒ zhènghǎo zhīdào nà běn shū fàng zài nǎr, jiù zhǔdòng guòqù bāng tā. tā xiàozhe gēn wǒ shuō le shēng xièxie.
Yes, I happened to know where that book was, so I took the initiative to go help her. She smiled and said thank you to me.
L
wā, hǎo làngmàn! nà nǐmen hòulái yòu shì zěnme zài yìqǐ de?
Wow, so romantic! So how did you two end up together afterwards?
W
hòulái wǒ fāxiàn wǒmen dōu xǐhuan tóng yí gè zuòjiā, jiù liáo le qǐlái, yuè liáo yuè tóujī.
Later I discovered we both liked the same author, so we started chatting, and the more we talked the more we hit it off.
L
yuánlái nǎinai niánqīng de shíhou yě zhème ài kàn shū a, wǒ yǐqián dōu bù zhīdào.
So Grandma loved reading so much when she was young—I never knew that before.
W
shì a, wǒmen nà shíhou méiyǒu shǒujī, quán kào xiě xìn liánxì, gǎnqíng fǎn'ér gèng shēn.
Yeah, back then we didn't have cell phones; we relied entirely on letters to keep in touch, and our feelings actually grew even deeper.
L
nàxiē xìn nǐ hái liúzhe ma? wǒ hǎo xiǎng kànkan.
Do you still keep those letters? I'd really love to take a look.
W
dāngrán liúzhe, dōu suǒ zài lóushàng yí gè jiù hézi lǐ ne. děng huìr wǒ ná xiàlái gěi nǐ kàn.
Of course I've kept them—they're all locked away in an old box upstairs. In a bit I'll bring them down to show you.
